That show was one of those sweet moments that remind me what music is all about. When I am asked to describe Matthew Ryan, I struggle with how to put into words his value: "oh, he's another white guy with a guitar singer/songwriter. But he is so *genuine* and his songs are truly a joy. More than I can simply describe by saying he sounds like so and so."

Also, I hope that he someday opens the Ultimate Tour: The Dave Matthew Ryan Adam Ant Tour.

Oh, and...
My son (who first introduced me to Dave so many years ago) and I went to see him in September, as we do almost every year. We were at the first show after the accident that eventually took Leroi Moore's life. At that time, just 2 days after the accident, everyone was just glad he survived and assumed he would eventually recover. Bela Fleck's sax player, whose name escapes me, stood in and we thought that was cool.
Doesn't seem quite so cool now.
I hope the band endures.

Been a while since you've written, longer since I've stopped by.
Ah well.
BTCS is probably Dave's best studio album, but ever since seeing him live for the 1st time about 10 or 12 years ago, I've hardly listened to the studio stuff. Like the Dead, he is by FAR at his best live on stage. I have about a dozen different live albums, and could listen to every one of them in succession and not get bored. I have 1 playlist on my I-tunes that is just "Lie in Our Graves" and "Two Step". 4 different versions of the former and 3 of the latter. They're all different, and they all kick ASS. I think I like the acoustic Lie in Our Graves by Dave and Tim Reynolds the best, but that's probably just temporary. As in, until I hear the version on the Fenway Park collection my son got me for Hannukah that I haven't listened to yet.
Anyway - write on.

I am moving to Anchorage next month and I am enjoying browsing the blogs in the mean time.

As to your question, I grew up about the same time.
